Thigh lift procedure (Thighplasty)
A thigh lift is a cosmetic surgery that removes excess skin and fat, reshaping the patient thighs to give a more contoured appearance. It is also relieves pain and irritation that occurs when the thighs continuously rub against each other. It is commonly performed in conjunction with liposuction. A thigh lift procedure takes place in a hospital under general anesthesia and takes about 2 to 3 hours to complete.
Before the surgery, the surgeon will mark incision lines while the patient is standing. The anesthesiologist will give the patient anesthesia to put her/him to sleep so he /she will not feel any pain during the surgery.
After the thigh lift operation
After a thigh lift surgery, the patient will be moved to a recovery room until he/she wakes up from general anesthesia. The patient needs to stay 1 to 2 nights in the hospital after the surgery. The surgeon will place small tubes under the skin to clear blood and fluid for two three days.
The thigh area is especially susceptible to tension and gravity. Incisions on the thighs can take longer to heal, because all of the weight of the body is pulled down when the patient move around. For that reason, it is highly recommended committing to bed rest for at least one week after the surgery. In so doing, the patient will minimize the amount of potential damage that may be done to the thigh lift incisions. Patient needs plenty of rest, and should avoid moving around a lot or participating in strenuous activities for 15 days. Patient need to wear compression garments for at least six weeks.
